A talking point for many a pond owner and koi hobbyist….are they true koi?!
If you speak to a Japanese breeder many will say that these are called Hirenagagoi , which means long finned fish. To increase their monetary value and popularity they have been given the title as Koi. Taking this all in, doesn’t mean that they are not beautiful fish and a great addition to any koi pond.
There are some great examples of Butterfly Koi being seen across the world, most predominately in North America.
As the demand for the butterfly koi increases a wider variation of pattern and colour are becoming more available.
Butterfly Koi can be kept happily alongside Koi.
Take a look at some of the examples that can be found around the world!
